Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together for about a minute.
  3. Crack in the eggs and pour in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract into the dry mixture. Mix everything together on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water (or brewed coffee) into the batter, stirring gently until completely incorporated.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for about 30–35 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Make the frosting by beating softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla extract, and heavy cream, blending until light and fluffy.
  8. Once completely cooled, frost the first cake layer, place the second layer on top and coat the sides and top evenly with frosting.
  9. Decorate with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or fresh berries just before serving.
