- Begin by peeling the carrots and slicing them into thin ribbons using a vegetable peeler or mandoline.
- Place the carrot ribbons in a steaming basket over a pot of simmering water. Cover and steam for approximately 5 minutes or until tender yet firm.
- Transfer the steamed carrot ribbons into a mixing bowl and let them cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the liquid smoke, tamari, rice vinegar, neutral oil, flax oil, sea salt, and optional maple syrup.
- Once the carrot ribbons are slightly cooled, pour the marinade over them and gently toss to coat evenly.
- Add the optional nori sheet pieces, transfer to an airtight container, and refrigerate overnight.
