  • 1 pound flank steak can substitute with chicken or tofu
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low-sodium version recommended
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce can replace with extra soy sauce for vegetarian
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice lemon juice can be used as a substitute
  • 2 cloves garlic minced or use garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper adjust to preference
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust for desired spice level
For Cooking
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil peanut or coconut oil can be used
For Serving
  • 1 cup jasmine rice can substitute with brown rice or quinoa
  • to taste garnish fresh cilantro optional
  • 1 medium cucumber sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Place the flank steak in a resealable bag, add the marinade, seal, and refrigerate for 1 to 4 hours.
  3. Rinse jasmine rice under cold water, bring water to a boil, add rice, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet, sear marinated flank steak for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  5. Let the beef rest for 5 minutes, slice against the grain and serve over jasmine rice with garnishes.
