Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef May substitute with shrimp for a seafood option.
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce Opt for low-sodium for a healthier choice.
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce Hoisin-style sauce can be used if unavailable.
  • 1 cup Shredded Carrots Other vegetables like cucumbers can be swapped in for variety.
  • 1 cup Chopped Bell Peppers Any color works well, or use diced celery for a crunchier texture.
  • 1 cup Fresh Basil Leaves Omit only if necessary as it reduces authenticity.
For the Wrapping
  • 8 Rice Paper Wrappers Keep them moist while working to prevent cracking.

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Shallow dish
  • damp cloth

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the lean ground beef. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently until the meat is fully browned and cooked through. As it cooks, stir in soy sauce and hoisin sauce.
  2. Once the beef is browned, stir in the shredded carrots and chopped bell peppers. Sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until the vegetables are tender yet still crisp.
  3. In a shallow dish, fill warm water and dip a rice paper sheet for about 10-15 seconds until it becomes soft and pliable.
  4. Lay the softened rice paper on a clean surface. Place 2-3 fresh basil leaves in the center, followed by a few spoonfuls of the beef mixture.
  5. Fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling, then roll it from the bottom up tightly.
  6. Once all the Thai Basil Beef Rolls are assembled, arrange them on a serving platter and serve immediately.
