Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll the thawed puff pastry into an 18"x18" square, about 1/8-inch thick.
- Sprinkle grated Gruyère cheese over one half of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border. Add black pepper and brush the border with milk.
- Fold the pastry over to create a pocket and press edges to seal.
- Whisk together the egg yolk and milk, then brush the mixture over the top.
- Sprinkle with remaining black pepper and sea salt flakes.
- Slice the pastry into ½-inch wide strips, twist each strip, and place on baking sheets.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden and puffed, then cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm on a platter for immediate enjoyment.
