- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, and optional cayenne pepper until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk and melted unsalted butter together, then pour over dry ingredients and stir gently to combine.
- Fold in shredded sharp cheddar cheese and lightly knead on a floured surface. Roll the dough to about 1¼ inches thick.
