Step-by-Step Instructions for Christmas Sausage Rolls
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather ingredients and prepare your workspace.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add ½ cup of finely diced onion and 1 minced garlic clove. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until onions are soft.
  3. In a bowl, combine 1 lb of sausage meat with the sautéed onion and garlic, 1 tsp each of dried sage and thyme, ¼ tsp ground black pepper, and ¼ tsp salt. Mix well.
  4. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into rectangles (approximately 4x6 inches).
  5. Take a rectangle of pastry, place a generous amount of filling along one edge, and roll the pastry over the filling. Seal the edges.
  6. Make a few diagonal slits on top of each roll for steam to escape and brush with beaten egg.
  7. Place rolls on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with dipping sauces.
