Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather your ingredients and kitchen tools, including a large skillet for the meat sauce and a baking dish for layering.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and a splash of water. Add sugar, dried basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer on low for about 30 minutes.
  4. Combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and parsley in a medium bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  5. In your baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat these layers and finish with meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for about 15 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
