Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather your ingredients and kitchen tools, including a large skillet for the meat sauce and a baking dish for layering.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and a splash of water. Add sugar, dried basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer on low for about 30 minutes.
- Combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and parsley in a medium bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- In your baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat these layers and finish with meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna rest for about 15 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
