Ingredients

  • 1 lb Shrimp uncooked, peeled, deveined
  • 1 tsp Dark Chili Powder adjust to preference
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika or regular paprika
  • ½ tsp Ground Cumin no direct substitutes
  • ½ tsp Dried Oregano fresh can be used
  • 1 tsp Garlic (Minced) opt for fresh for maximum flavor
  • ½ tsp Red Pepper Flakes modify to your spice level
  • ½ tsp Kosher Salt sea salt can be used
  • 2 tsp Juice of Lime fresh juice is best
  • 3 tbsp Avocado Oil or olive oil
For the Avocado Crema
  • 1 medium Avocado ripe
  • ½ cup Cilantro stems can be added
  • 1 Jalapeño remove seeds for milder heat
  • 3 cloves Garlic add garlic powder if necessary
  • 2 limes Juice fresh juice is preferred
  • ½ cup Plain Greek Yogurt can substitute with sour cream
  • 3 tbsp Water to adjust consistency
For the Slaw and Tortillas
  • 1 cup Shredded Green Cabbage or napa cabbage
  • 1 cup Shredded Purple Cabbage optional
  • 8-10 Small Flour or Corn Tortillas use gluten-free if desired
  • Fresh Cilantro for garnish
  • Lime Wedges for serving

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine dark chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, dried oregano, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, kosher salt, lime juice, and avocado oil. Add uncooked shrimp, coat thoroughly, cover, and refrigerate for up to 30 minutes.
  2. While the shrimp marinates, add avocado, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, Greek yogurt, and water to a food processor. Blend until smooth, adjusting consistency with more water if needed.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix shredded green and purple cabbage. Add some avocado crema and toss gently to coat.
  4. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook marinated shrimp in a single layer for 4-6 minutes, turning once, until they curl and turn pink.
  5. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet for 30 seconds on each side. Assemble tacos with shrimp, slaw, and extra avocado crema.
