Preparation Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the baking dish.
- Cook ziti or penne in salted water until al dente for about 6 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, half mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan. Optionally add an egg.
- Mix half of the cooked pasta with marinara sauce and layer in the baking dish.
- Spread half of the cheese mixture over the pasta layer.
- Layer remaining pasta and marinara, then top with the remaining cheese mixture.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Optionally broil for 1-2 minutes for extra crispiness.
- Let rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
