Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the baking dish.
  2. Cook ziti or penne in salted water until al dente for about 6 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, half mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan. Optionally add an egg.
  4. Mix half of the cooked pasta with marinara sauce and layer in the baking dish.
  5. Spread half of the cheese mixture over the pasta layer.
  6. Layer remaining pasta and marinara, then top with the remaining cheese mixture.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  8. Optionally broil for 1-2 minutes for extra crispiness.
  9. Let rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
