Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 lb pizza dough Use store-bought for ease or homemade for authenticity.
For the Filling
  • 1/2 lb ground beef, cooked Can substitute with turkey or plant-based meat.
  • 1/2 lb bacon, cooked and crumbled Omit for a vegetarian option or use cooked sausage.
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded Cheddar or pepper jack can be used for a flavor kick.
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce BBQ sauce can be a fun twist.
  • 1 unit onion, diced and sautéed Shallots work for a milder taste.
  • optional vegetables (peppers, mushrooms) Sauté moisture-rich varieties to prevent sogginess.

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Rolling Pin

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle, about ¼ inch thick. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the cooked ground beef until heated through, then add crumbled bacon and sauté until crispy. Add the diced onion and any optional vegetables, cooking until the onions are translucent.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce evenly across the rolled-out pizza dough. Layer the cooked beef, bacon, mozzarella cheese, and any sautéed vegetables on top.
  4. Starting from the edge closest to you, carefully roll the dough around the fillings to create a tight log shape. Pinch the edges together to seal it.
  5. Transfer the rolled Garbage Bread to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, seam side down. Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Let the Garbage Bread cool for about 10 minutes on the baking sheet before slicing with a serrated knife.
