Ingredients

For the Dish
  • 1 pound lean ground beef recommended to keep it light and flavorful
  • 0.5 medium onion chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • 0.5 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
  • 15 ounce tomato sauce
  • 0.75 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream for creaminess
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 2 cups fresh baby spinach packed
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large pot

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. In a large pot, heat over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook undisturbed for 5-6 minutes until browned.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then stir in minced garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning; cook until fragrant.
  3. Add the uncooked orzo pasta, stirring well. Toast slightly for 1 minute, then pour in the tomato sauce, beef broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.
  4. Lower the heat to medium, cooking for about 10 minutes while stirring frequently, until the orzo absorbs the liquid and becomes tender.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in grated parmesan cheese and fresh spinach. Let it sit covered for 3-5 minutes to thicken.
  6. Taste and season with salt and pepper before serving warm in bowls.
