Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
- In a small saucepan, heat 2 cups of whole milk over medium heat.
- Whisk together 4 egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until creamy.
- Combine in saucepan and cook on low heat until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Chill while you make the cake.
Making the Streusel Topping
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of oats.
- Cut in 1/2 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Chill in the refrigerator.
Baking the Cake
- Cream together 1 cup of softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in 3 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each.
- Combine dry ingredients and add to the butter mixture, alternating with 1 cup of milk.
- Pour into prepared pan, top with sliced apples, and sprinkle with streusel.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
Serving
- Allow the cake to cool for 15 minutes before removing from the springform pan.
- Dust with confectioners' sugar and serve with custard sauce.
